03.Health Economics: Module 3 - Introduction to Health Economic Evaluation Methods

Module Three is comprised of four units.

• Unit One is Accessing and appraising published economic evaluation evidence. This unit focuses on techniques relating to searching for relevant health economic evaluation evidence and critically appraising this evidence for quality, relevance and transferability.

• Unit Two is Experimental and observational designs. This unit provides an overview of the potential approaches to economic evaluations conducted as part of a trial or observational study, identifying key issues to consider when integrating economic analysis with clinical/operational research projects.

• In many cases, an experimental or observational design may not be desirable  or feasible. In these cases Decision Analytic Models can be an appropriate alternative. Unit Three is Decision Analytic Models. This unit outlines the rationale for developing models, identifies key good practice guidelines for model development and describes the main steps in building a Decision Tree Model.

• The final unit of Module Three is Unit Four which is Preference-elicitation. This unit outlines the rationale for measuring preferences, distinguishes between revealed and stated preference techniques and provides an initial overview of key aspects of the discrete choice experiment stated preference technique.
